What to Expect
Teddy Bear Dental Pediatric Dentistry in irvine is an oral healthcare provider for children. If it is your child's first dental visit, we encourage you to prepare: let your child play dentist on you or on dolls; and read books about going to the dentist with your child. We have a selection of books on first dental visit, general oral healthcare and tooth fairy. We also have a DVD about going to the dentist. You are more than welcome to call our office and borrow one of these from our library and practice with your child. Avoid using words suggesting unpleasantness such as shots, drills, needles and hurts as they can create negative thoughts in your child's mind. DO NOT use these words even in sentences that you might think you are using to assure your child, like "there will be no shots." Instead focus on the positive side and explain that A DENTIST OFFICE IS A COOL PLACE WHERE YOUR TEETH GET COUNTED AND SHINED.
At the first visit, Dr. Teddy will perform a head and neck exam, check your child's dental health and bite, discuss their dental needs and answer any questions you may have about oral health. Dr. Teddy will take X-rays, if needed, after the exam. We use the latest equipment and techniques to minimize radiation exposure. Additional services will be scheduled for a later visit.
For your convenience, please complete the patient health history form, consent form and general form, and bring them with you on your first visit to our office.

Insurance Policy
We accept most traditional insurance plans, major PPOs and some Healthy Families.
As a service to our patients with dental insurance, we process the claims for you to receive your plan benefits directly from the insurance company. We will make every effort to assure you receive maximum benefits. As part of our efforts to do so, we would like to share some facts about dental insurance.
There are many differences in the benefits provided by different insurance plans. Your insurance policy is a contract between you, your employer and your insurance company. The amount your plan pays is largely determined by contribution you and your employer make to your dental plan. Please remember that you are responsible for the payment.
¡Ü Remember too, that no insurance company attempts to cover all dental costs. It is only meant to be an aid. Many carriers claim that they reimburse the insured promptly up to 80% or up to 100% of the total fees. In reality, however, we have found that most plans cover about 40%-50% of average fees. Some pay more, some less. Again, the less paid for your insurance by you and your employer, the less coverage you will receive.
¡Ü Usual, Customary or Reasonable Fees, UCR, is an arbitrary amount the insurance company chooses to pay for each procedure. It is not based on the average charge of practicing specialists in the area. It is merely an allowable amount they will reimburse so that they can make a decent profit margin. Our fees are within range of other pediatric dental offices in the area.
¡Ü Every dental insurance plan differs in percentages, deductibles, maximums, UCRs, and covered procedures. We will do our very best to estimate what your insurance plan will pay as accurate as possible. Despite our efforts, there may be differences between our estimates and actual payment from your insurance company.
¡Ü Many routine dental services are not covered by dental insurance. We make our recommendations based on your child's needs and what is best for your child, not on your insurance coverage.
